Here's what you can expect during the first session
Hey everyone, I’m Jennifer Sarton with Alcohol and Addiction Support, and I wanted to take a moment to talk about something a lot of people ask me—what happens in the first session, sometimes called an assessment, when you come to see me. When you arrive, I’ll meet you at the door, bring you in, and make sure you’re comfortable—there’s no judgment here, just a chance for me to get to know you and understand your story. We’ll go over your history, including any past struggles with mental health, substance use, or compulsive behaviors, and I’ll ask questions to understand when things started to become unmanageable and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past. The goal is to make this a comfortable experience, where you feel safe opening up, so we can start building trust and come up with a plan together. In my next video, I’ll be talking about the treatment plan—an action plan we develop collaboratively to guide your recovery—so stay tuned, and if you ever have any questions, feel free to message me!
